Cobra 29LTD Chrome Meter Light Question
Cobra 29LTD Chrome Meter Light Question
Hi, guys. I have a 2009 Cobra 29LTD Chrome (the Black Chrome edition, actually), that has the blue channel display, and blue-lit meter. I bought it for two reasons...mainly because Cobra 29s are just good solid radios, AND the Chrome versions have the black face, which is my favorite look on a CB radio. Anyway, about the only thing I don't like about it is the blue-lit meter. How do I go about changing out the blue light to make it a different color? I mean, is it a light that is easily accessible and can be removed easily, or is the light built in to the meter and will the whole meter will have to be replaced? I plan to make the new bulb a white LED, as I bought several 3mm white LEDs the other day...so hopefully, I will have the part already. Thanks for the help.

As long as the lamps you got have a pigtail on them, it should be ok. I simply splice the wires/solder/and use shrink tubing. Good luck.

Those 3mms leds will probably be too small, for what you want but are definitely worth a try. The light is a separate piece that fits in a cavity behind the meter.
I use 5mm pre wired 12v, and solder them directly to the board.

Re: Cobra 29LTD Chrome Meter Light Question
all the LED's bulbs only take about 3 volts to turn on. if you put more than it needs to just turn on it will blow it just as soon as you power it on. that is what one asked if it had a pigtail on the LED's you bought. depending on the voltage needed you have to put a 330 to 470 ohm resister on the pos leg of the led to keep it from blowing up. i have a lot of LED's and they range from 2 volts to 3.5 volts to run properly.
hope you get it figured out.
