When checking my swr I checked dead key also im getting 12 watts used to key up around 4 and swing to around 18. I bought it new think it was in 2000 had a peak and tune done and covers hasnt been back off. When talking on it get good reports but was wondering if this could damage.

Hello bassman26,
Welcome to the forum. Sorry it took so long to give you an answer to your question. When using an SWR meter a lot of variables happen that make erroneous readings, jumper coax is bad, antenna is out of adjustment, etc. Try checking it on a dummy load and see if the readings are different.
