I played with my 148gtl today. I've never realy talked on it before. Just got a few radio checks when I bought it to test it out. Tuned it a couple of weeks ago and just sat there looking at it trying to decide how I wanted to do this one. I did the 25w+ tune I found somewhere and peaked it at 30ish Dosy watts then backed it down just over 20. The limiter is still intact. Actualy pulled tr24 just to see how much more power it would gain. The extra 5w aint worth the extra splatter so I put it back. She keys 2 and swings to just over 20 pep and 8 rms on a dosy. Decided that yes I had to have echo so did that today with switchable talk back on the hi/lo tone switch. Just for fun I flipped that puppy onto 38lsb and boom Mr.109 in Canada came in loud!!! I told him he sure was loud and he came back saying that mine was pretty loud as well. We held a conversation for at least 5 minutes and we both sounded like we were on AM. I mentioned that I was in south Mississippi and when he told me he was in Canada I sure was proud of my work on radio. About 20 minutes or so latter, still on 38l, I made contact with a guy in W.Va. and again we both sounded like am. I actualy made a videogate with the W.Va contact. It wasn't as long as Canada but still for a barefoot 148 on a ground plane at 25' up I'm happy. I hope this a good sign because this was the first time I even tried out the ssb on it. Now my delemia is the clarifier. To leave locked or unlock? I will post a diferent thread on that in a few minutes. Anyway I'm tickled to death with my $30 radio 73 yall
