Background noise

#394563

Post by Redcbguy99 »

Good afternoon fellow enthusiasts! I am running a Cobra 29 LTD Classic coupled with an RM KL 203-P through a Tram mag. My unit is tuned to 2 watt DK. My question is does anyone get a constant “popping” noise in RX? It doesn’t affect my RX at all and can’t be heard on my carrier. It goes away when I am receiving conversation but comes back as soon as the other person releases the PTT. Could this be interference or is it a symptom of a more serious issue? Just trying to be preemptive to protect my investment since I am a newbie. Thanks for the help!

does the popping noise change as you give your car gas? if it does it is coming from your car. do you have the nb and anl switches turned on to help kill ignition noise?

Is the noise present with the engine off or more so when it's running? How are the power leads ran? Check all the connections for tightness, power leads and coax. Add a ground from the amp case to a good location. Make sure everything on the antenna is tight.

Good afternoon guys. Thanks for the help but I have found it has disappeared completely today so I peg it on just some random receive interference. However, will I get better results from grounding my amp housing even if the ground lead from the board is grounded?

no. chassis ground happens thru the transmission lines braided conductor being grounded to the vehicle body/frame (so239 connector on amp), and circuit ground thru neg power lead.

Try running a heavy ground 8 gauge. From the amp chassis to the vehicle frame. Also a ground from the battery to the frame. What's the swr look like?
