Channel freq. not right after mod
Channel freq. not right after mod
I recently performed the 10Kc mod for my Galaxy DX959. And it seemed to be fine. Then i started to notice the channel freq. And they are either off, or some are just duplicated. Here's what i have.
1)26.965 11)27.085 21)27.225 31)27.325
2)26.985 12)27.105 22)27.225 32)27.325
3)26.985 13)27.125 23)27.265 33)27.345
4)27.005 14)27.125 24)27.245 34)27.345
5)27.025 15)27.145 25)27.245 35)27.365
6)27.025 16)27.165 26)27.265 36)27.365
7)27.045 17)27.165 27)27.285 37)27.385
8)27.065 18)27.185 28)27.285 38)27.385
9)27.065 19)27.185 29)27.305 39)27.405
10)27.085 20)27.205 30)27.305 40)27.405
And why does my switch not stay in the on position? It's a spdt

Re: Channel freq. not right after mod
My guess is it's not wired right or the switch is wrong, most likely the switch isn't a center off switch.

Re: Channel freq. not right after mod
This is the switch i ordered, SPDT (ON)-OFF-(ON) But it does NOT stay in the "ON" position. I'll double check the wiring also. And wouldn't a simple on/off switch work.

Re: Channel freq. not right after mod
Sounds like the switch was mislabeled, the switch should have 3 detents and the center one should stay in the "OFF" position.Beachbum24 wrote: Mar 25 2019, 15:25 This is the switch i ordered, SPDT (ON)-OFF-(ON) But it does NOT stay in the "ON" position. It does have 3. That is if your talking about 3 terminals on the switch. Now as far as the center staying off. It does, it's only on if i hold the switch in the up position.

Re: Channel freq. not right after mod
That is what I meant about the detent, detents are like clicks on a rotary dial, it should click and stay in the center on a "ON-OFF-ON" switch.

Re: Channel freq. not right after mod
Just so i understand, as this is so new to me. It does stay in the center, it just won't stay on. So i have to hold the switch up(ON) to work. So is that what is causing my freq. discrepancies? I have to hold the switch up/on to be on normal freq.MDYoungblood wrote: Mar 25 2019, 16:46 That is what I meant about the detent, detents are like clicks on a rotary dial, it should click and stay in the center on a "ON-OFF-ON" switch.

My .02 - Your switch might be a momentary - Sort of like a horn button - You need a SPST center off - ( on- off - on )
Re: Channel freq. not right after mod
Yes, i bought a SPDT On/Off/On Momentary as per the instructions at cbtricks.

Re: Channel freq. not right after mod
You don't want a momentary. The switch should have three separate positions that lock into place.
Did the actual instructions at cbtricks explicitly state momentary?

Re: Channel freq. not right after mod
It actually says SPDT. I didn't realize i had bought a momentary. I'll be ordering a new one soon. I do have something else i don't understand. When i do hold the switch closed, what kind of swing should i see. For instance, if i was at 27.205 am. Because i'm only seeing it go to 27.204 up to 27.207. I was hoping for more. Or does this have something to do with the wrong switch?Pioneer621 wrote: Apr 27 2019, 11:07 You don't want a momentary. The switch should have three separate positions that lock into place.

Re: Channel freq. not right after mod
It switches 10kHz, which is one full channel, so you should see a 1 channel jump.
Sounds like it is not working correctly: if you are on 27.205, when you flip the switch it should go to 27.215 or 27.195 depending. Even though you are using a momentary, as long as the contacts are SPDT it should work fine, you just have to hold the switch in the position you want it. Something seems wrong.
I'm not sure your experience with radio and all that, but the 10k mod is only for getting to the "RC" / "A" channels hidden in the CB band (27.195 is one of them), it does nothing else, so unless you know guys talking on those channel (few do), it does not offer much use.
The channel mod to expand the coverage above and below the normal 40 is much better (can be lots of DX here, and sometimes even local activity).
