Any idea if a Heil HM12 would work on a Ranger 2995?

Hello 659,
I made this it's own topic and I believe it is a good one.

I never thought about using a Heil mic on my 2995 but it is interesting, I do use them on my ham radios (a Heil iCM and a Heil HM-1). The HM-12 is a fine microphone, I think it will work on the 2995 but you will need a harness and a PTT switch.

This is just a reference, don't think anyone make a harness to work on the 2995 but plenty out there that can make it for you, probably even Heil themselves.

I had a harness made to try the Heil. Very low modulation even with mic gain wide open. Failed experiment but thats okay. I'm going to put the mic, base and Yaesu up for sale. Thank you for the reply.

Sounds like it needs an amplifier or sound board to boost the audio. I think the ones that use the Heil mics also have rack (studio) equipment for just that reason.

I believe Heil also sells an impedance transformer and a small in-line amp for adding 5heir mic’s to some radios

I have used Heil mics on my ham radios, currently have one of the traveler headsets. But I currently run an old Radio Shack 33-3001 Dynamic Uni-directional "Grayline" Pro Studio Microphone with Heil adapter and pistol grip key switch. I get pretty good audio reports with it, throw a little compression in there and jump right in the pileups.
