What's your current base station rig?
Just like the title says, what's everyone currently running for your base station? Currently on my desk is a Cobra 2000 run into a small little helper. On the amateur side of things is a Icom V-8000 for 2 meters.

I would love to have a 2 meter all mode rig. I am going to a ham fest towards the end of this month. I am hoping to find a yaesu 847. Have everything in one cabinet.

Re: What's your current base station rig?
For talking to my CB locals I use a Texas Ranger TR-696FDC1 with a Maxon 13.8vdc 10A w/speaker PS into a 48yo Avanti Sigma II antenna. For ham use it is a Icom IC-746 (non pro) or IC-7100, a HyGain AV-6160 and AVQ-14 4 band vertical plus a couple wire antennas.

MDYoungblood, have you had any issues with your 746? I've seen several of them on "Bidding Site"
for what seems to be pretty good prices. Definitely a rig I am seriously considering for my shack.

Re: What's your current base station rig?
I am the second owner, the original purchaser did have the back-lite problem resolved and while it was at the authorized repair facility they did a bunch of late model production mods so I was lucky. Before buying ask if any of these mods were done. As far as me, no problems, works great.686Ghostrider wrote: Feb 10 2020, 13:33 MDYoungblood, have you had any issues with your 746? Forgot to add antennas. 102"whip(currently L using 2 102 whips), dual band 2m/440 mag mount on a steel bar and a 4el Arrow 2M yagi. I also have an A99 but i use the 102" because of close proximity to trees.

What's your current base station rig?
Well, for CB I am currently using the Galaxy DX2517 and an RM KL 503 through an IMax2000 and DR Dipole. Sometimes I use the RCI 2990 without the 503.
I also use a Cobra 142 GTL that has been direct injected an is fitted with a Xenyx Q802 mixer and a Shure SM 57 dynamic mic which also goes through the 503 since I use the MFJ-1700C Antenna/Transceiver Switch box for all the CB radios.
There is a different D-104 wired for each of the radios. Two Tug-8's, a silver Eagle, and a Night K Eagle.
With my Ham tag now, I use a TYT TH9800 Quad band mobile on a power pack wth a Hy Gain HH9000 gutter mount mobile Quad band antenna on my garage roof. Do rag chew on 2M and haven't gotten into much 10M yet. The Ham club I'm in is a big help and learnin' bunches.

Re: What's your current base station rig?
I've got a few old mobile radios I can set up for base use. There's a Pace 8046 which I bought from a friend, it was still new-in-box in the early/mid 2000's. It even came with the CB license application form. Then a bit more recent I was gifted three Sears Roadtalker 40's, two are the same model and one has the slanted face, but it's an AM-only rig.
For base use I can use my trusty old Kenwood TS-140 which I opened up frequency-wise not long after I bought it new. I still haven't done the squelch mod to it yet (from the factory, squelch only works on FM), but I might soon.
For 10m I have an old Realistic HTX-100. I'm planting on installing an antenna for it on the roof sometime in the near future. I've also got a Uniden HR2600 but it's got "issues."

Re: What's your current base station rig?
That Pace radio is a lot older than you think, the FCC stopped licensing in April of 1983 so if the box has a license application it was manufactured before that. I believe the last radios were made around 1985 before shutting the doors.TNT1450 wrote: Apr 20 2020, 11:25 I've got a few old mobile radios I can set up for base use. Re: What's your current base station rig?
Really? For some reason I was thinking the FCC dropped licensing requirements back in the late 70's or so, or maybe around 1980. I didn't know it was later than that.MDYoungblood wrote: Apr 20 2020, 12:11 That Pace radio is a lot older than you think, the FCC stopped licensing in April of 1983 so if the box has a license application it was manufactured before that. I date the Pace to be from around 1978 or so. I have a manual for it so I'll have to look at it again and see if there's a date on it anywhere. IIRC the FCC changed the CB band from 23 channels to 40 in 1977, so it does have to be older than that.

Re: What's your current base station rig?
I just found the manual, and it has a 1977 copyright on it, so this radio dates from around 1977-1978 or so. But when I bought it in the mid-2000's it was still in the box and in mint condition. The guy I bought it from said it had never been used. I paid a whole $10 for it.

For CB Base I run a Midland 13-880B SSB rig. Also have a Sears Road Talker 40 that I'm going to put in the car as soon as the WX gets a little warmer. For amateur I run Swans. 220a, 270B Signet, 350, and a 500. Have an FT101 that needs some TLC, let the magic smoke out.

For the base I have two rigs:
CB: Galaxy DX 959B -> RM KL-503 HD -> MFJ Deluxe Versa Tuner II -> Falcon 2400 Watt 11 Meter Dipole
HAM: Yaesu FT-450D -> ATAS-120A Screwdriver Antenna (Still studying for my HAM tag so this is listen only) For the mobiles: Cage CB: Stryker SR-94HPC (10M rig set to 11M) -> Laird Technologies CB27S Antenna. The 94HPC is 10W but I need just a bit more. I have a Palomar amplifier but I need to repair it first.
Motorcycle CB: Midland 75-822 -> Firestick II w/Quick disco and this works amazingly well.
I also have a President Lincoln II+ but it was my first radio and I unfortunately tortured the heck out of it. It needs to be repaired and that's not a repair that I can do.
