Realistic trc-207 antenna question.

#402102

Post by CDK »

I have a cb radio with a rubber ducky antenna and it’s a screw on antenna kind of like a bolt and I am wanting to know if there are any other antennas that I can use that are more sensitive that is a screw on antenna? The screw on antenna doesn’t have a center copper post. The cb radio uses a female threaded post.

On most walkie talkie's, the "rubber duckie" antenna that comes with it was usually just a resistor with a parasitic wire inside. You could probably make a better antenna but first you need to find out what the thread is. If it turns out to be a 3/8 24 thread, a regular fiberglass or center load antenna would work. No clue on how to check the SWR (maybe a field strength meter??) so you are on your own.

that radio has a jack on the side for an external antenna.
i have used a piece of coax hooked to a whip and got excellent results with my RS walkie talker, i also had it hooked to a small motorcycle battery and used an external mic too.

directly answering your question, my solution would be to do a search for "best rubber ducky antenna's", you can narrow it down from there.
