Short mobile antennas

New question: for wife's car, interstate travel, President New Yorker vs Midland 18-2442. Which would you choose? Thanks in advance for input.

Short antennas equal short or no distance plus the SWR curve is quite high on the ends of the band, you would do about the same with a dummy load on the roof. Both antennas you mentioned are magnet mounts, if your going that way why not a taller antenna like a Wilson or Sirio.

Wife doesn't want a long antenna on the roof

Well you have to do what the Boss says but I wouldn't go much shorter than 3ft, Tram, Hustler, Wilson, and Sirio make nice short base loaded antenna, only thing sticking up is the whip.

I already have the tram, but even that is more than she would like to tolerate on her car. I know it's not going to be a long distance talker, but of the two I mentioned, which would you choose? Which one would you think would out perform the other? Thanks

Between those two I would go with the Midland as it is enter loaded and only because I know nothing about the President antenna. It looks European, similar to the fin antenna that come on most foreign cars now a days but less than 20" is way to short, would get maybe 2 or 3 good channel readings.
I would explain to her that it would come off when not traveling.
