President Mckinley SSB question

Although I like my Uniden Bearcat 980 and it still tx and rx's well the display is fading out. I may send it off sometime to be fixed before the display fails completely. My question is about the President Mckinley which I considered seriously before I found my used Uniden 980. Question is I will be running a KL203 Italy amp and I realise the power output for the carrier is adjustable so friendly to the amp. But is it worth getting one from Bell's cb or any other you guys recommend to check the modulation and output etc or are these so good you can confidently run them out of the box?

I bought mine off Amazon and didn't have anything done to it...There's two pots that you can adjust to give you 100% modulation and turn up the SSB to 12w, and they are easy to find and adjust...Other than those two pots, really there's nothing else that needs to be done to the McKinley...

Out of the box modulation is set at 75%, and ssb around 4w, so you will probably want to tune these two things up.

Watch this video by CB Magazine, he shows you exactly where the two pots are at, and what to do...

If you have a shop do a P&T on the radio they will charge you probably $25-$35 to do the same thing that this video shows you for free!

Thanks a million Mr Dallas! Was hoping you would reply as I know you have one. I will order one and set it up myself. Do I need a modulation meter ? I have a watt/swr meter but no mod meter.

Not sure who the Amazon seller was but think it's a sponsor here, (DNJ). Check GI Joe's price, give him a call and I'll bet he will match it and some. Always check the sponsors first, and tell them you're a member.
The thing about having the seller do a mod is he will still honor the warranty.

Hi got the RM KL503 amp from our sponsor on this site and it works fine out of the box with my McKinley that I got from Amazon with no problems.

It is an awesome radio and I have a Silver Eagle wired for it that is too fun.
