I got 2 cobra handhelds. Dont know what the range is, I never asked.

On battery it aint real far. Plugged in they are 4 watt units but antennas are built in so they aint gona reach far.

A friend of mine had a Maxon handheld, when he used to camp on a mountain in NY. I'd talk with him about 3-4 miles away with no problem...Something like that!!!
