SWR issues for nubbie.

Hello all
my setup. Galaxy DX99V mobile i have setup as a base.
I have a 30a power supply.
50 ft of RG8x coaxial by Tram
Tram 1411 Discone anttena 18 ft above house peak.
I live up on a mountain so not much interference
Now i use was using the antenna for my scanner mainly

now i have the radio and since the antenna say does both i switch cable back and forth only one hooked up at a time.
Now some say good antenna some say bad i dont know since i am new to this.
In the morning my swr is 1.4 to 1.7 across the board on cb
as the day goes on it goes up by evening im running 1.9 to 2.2
i dont know why but was told to get a different antenna for cb and was tolh to get a Worman Saturn B100 no ground plain antenna.
later was told it was worse than other but already ordered so i put it up on same pole but 4 ft below discone.
tested SWR was 1.1 to 1.2 across the board for about a hour.
now it stays 2.3 to 2.7 everytime i check it so.
what am i doing wrong are they to close or what and if i take Workman down why does my swr still climb during the day.
Help please.

use a separate swr meter, just to make sure your radio meter is correct.
also, inspect antenna,might have a loose part, is it windy in the afternoons?

Welcome to the forum . I would suggest making a post here first, [Please login or register to view this link] , it will get you started on the forum.

In my opinion I would eliminate the Saturn B100 or install it on it's own mast. The position it is in now the mast is interfering with it causing the high SWR.

The B100 is a old design, similar to the no ground plane FireStik antenna, it depends on coax length as it's counterpoise. If you take it down, pop the top off and there is an adjustment screw under it, but this antenna is very limited in bandwidth, only a couple channels will have a good SWR. It probably is also interfering with the discone.

That model discone (Tram 1411) can be adjusted for a good SWR on the CB band but it is rather limited on transmittable bandwidth plus it will not take a lot of wattage.

If you can install a CB band antenna, a Maco, HyGain, etc. I would do that and leave the discone for the scanner. FYI, the discone would be great for a SDR.

is the Solarcon Antron A-99 a good antenna for cb.
currently have SWR at 1.4 on discone and using the B100 for scanner.
as you said i will put discone as the scanner antenna and get the cb antenna. if that one is not a good budget antenna could you give me brand and models please.

each antenna has its own Tram 50 ft RG8X coax.
Also the tram does not quit clear the second floor roof so will the cb antenna i get need to clear second floor roof and how far away from scanner discone

It is a solid antenna, but the IMAX 2000 is my choice.

I'd recommend a 40ft push up pole or tower to get the base of the antenna above the roof.

The Antron and the Solarcon (same company makes both) are "easy up" antennas, I personally think the ground plane kits aren't worth the extra money but some swear by them. My preference are metal antennas, Sirio, Maco, HyGain, are to name a few. Another thing is not to skimp on coax, depending on the length, longer runs I use the larger coax.
