Antenna for an RV - best mount and install?

Greetings!
It has been a very long while since I’ve been on the forum. Between military duty and COVID issues, CB experiences came to a halt. I hope to get my RV set back up again.

I now have a ’09 Navion Class C RV, fiberglass body mostly, with composite mirrors (no metal) and hardly anywhere to mount an antenna, to speak of. I’m very leary about drilling into the shell. I’ve been told that I need to use a NGP antenna, with no more than a 17’ cable, run directly to the radio.

I have my barely used Cobra 29GTL in great condition ready to use.

What is the BEST senarior antenna and install set up for me, would you say?

Thanks!

Frank

best option is to rig up a fender mount...that's what I did on a box van I use to work out of...worked great! Just had to fab-up my own mounting bracket since at the time I didn't know where to start looking for one that was made for the van...If you can't figure out a way to build your own antenna mounting bracket. "Google" Hank Breedlove antenna mounts...if he doesn't already have something on the on-line store that will work, contact him and he will custom build you one...Here's a pic of the Van I had my fender mount on and a Predator 10K antenna.

That looks pretty promising, and sturdy. It looks like an easy install too. Thanks for th input, I’ll start checking on this set up.

If you don't want to go with a NGP antenna then your only choice is going to be a fender mount on your cab like was posted above. If you go with a NGP antenna then your coax is supplied with the antenna, do not cut the coax for it is a tuned circuit for the NGP antenna. The only issue with a NGP is where to put the excess coax.

Since you said you are apprehensive about drilling, a NGP is your only choice. Just don’t go too short as range will be effected. The pic of JJD’s work van is an excellent example. He used a super long antenna to compensate for the lack of ground plane.
