Instead of using the little screws, if you used a brad would that work as good?

as long as you can get a good tight-snug fit...screws can be tightened down so there's no movement...brads???

any movement can cause arcing, static, popping sounds, and loss of ground or positive contact...

You could cut a slot in the tubing and use a quality ss hose clamp, but still install the screw to keep the tubing from telescoping into itself.
