To adjust the dead key on your Bearcat 880 without reducing the total power output, you can follow these steps that I found online:
1.
Access the Inside of the Radio: Make sure the radio is unplugged and open it up to access its internal components.
2.
Locate VR6 Potentiometer: Inside the radio, you should be able to locate a potentiometer labeled as VR6. This is the variable resistor that controls the dead key.
3.
Adjust VR6: With a small screwdriver, carefully turn VR6 counterclockwise (left) to reduce the dead key. Start by making small adjustments, then key up the radio and check the power output on a wattmeter. Continue to adjust VR6 until you achieve the desired dead key level without affecting the total power output.
4.
Measure Dead Key and Total Power: It's essential to use a wattmeter to monitor both the dead key and the total power output while making adjustments. This will help you find the right balance.
5.
Reassemble and Test: After adjusting VR6, reassemble the radio and test it with your RM Italy 203P. Ensure that the dead key is at your desired level, and the total power output remains unchanged.
6.
Fine-Tuning: It might take some trial and error to get the dead key exactly where you want it while maintaining the same total power output. Be patient and make small adjustments until you achieve the desired result.
