Why AM/FM?
I'm curious as to why some people purchase radios with just AM/FM over radios with AM/SSB or AM/FM/SSB.

In my case...because the General Lee, and the Stryker that I have, are not available with SSB...Only AM/FM....There is rummer however, that Stryker may be in the process's of introducing a radio with SSB, sometime next year!
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

As 231 said, it's a matter of prefferance.Circuit Breaker wrote:I'm curious as to why some people purchase radios with just AM/FM over radios with AM/SSB or AM/FM/SSB.

It depends on what you want to do. I am a freeband operator, so ssb is important to me cuz that's what everybody uses and it is much more efficient and quieter. On the other hand, AM is what all the locals use, and Like previous posts stated it's all down to preference. Most big mobiles don't use ssb at all, so there's no point in paying extra for it, and even if you do pay extra for it on some radios like Galaxy that are better on AM, the SSB will really suck anyways. unless you can afford to get both a galaxy DX-45MP for AM and a 2950-DX or president lincoln for SSB, figure out which TX mode you like better and get a radio that works best in that particular mode.
