what to get?????

hello everyone,

I very new to this game so please excuse any ignorance. I'm after some equipment but not sure what to get. I ride bikes off road with mates and need a radio set-up so that i can get in contact with them and also a base unit. I don't want to spend hundreds hence I've been looking on eBay for scanners and CB radios. I'm after a couple of scanners and a base unit for the car, obviously they all need to interact with one another, and the scanners need to be adaptable for head sets. where we ride is very hilly and is a large area of land so they cannot be Argos Micky mouse things, i guess? (if these are any good let me know) any help would be much appreciated.

First off, welcome to the forum. :D

What kind of distance/range do you guys need to have? That alone might determine what direction of equipment to get.

And I doubt you'll find decent to good quality stuff cheap...not unless it's used. Looking at online auctions like that isn't a bad idea, but can also bite ya' in the end.

;)

Not sure what kind of money you're looking to spend, but FRS might be the way to go for your application.
There's some pretty good stuff out there in this line now.
The kids have some they use when their out camping and a little frs base for the trailer and say they've got really good range.

we ride in wales, in one place its over 600 acres in size with hills that are close to mountains!

if i can get away with FRS I'll get a couple of them, just don't want to buy them and find out they don't quite work.

600 acres give or take is only a mile or so (unless it's a real skinny area), frs should work well, imo.
You can get throat mics, ear buds etc, etc.
