radio shack scanner
i got about 4 scanners and the newest one i bought is a radio shack pro-2055. it was like 160$. its a great scanner for the money. looks good to. personaly i think uniden makes alot of radio shacks scanners ??? what do ya,all think? i live in a rural town that still uses the old style system. ( to many trees and mountains) but these new radio shack 2055 is a trunking capable scanner. wish i had the dough for that fancy uniden but ive never had a bit a problem with the radio shack scanners.. busman
Hi busman, I have heard that RS scanners aren't that good but being the owner of a RS Pro 2022 I have to disagree. I don't know much about yours but I like mine. Easy to program , scan for frequencies and now I am gonna pull the lid off the top to see what the chips inside are. If it's like my trc 457 uniden had a hand in it. Gravedigger.

yah, ive seen uniden scanners and alot of them look just like radio shack scannners. its about the only thing worth buying anymore at radio shack. oh, they got some good phones. i actually found 5 foot rg8-u patch coax at the one stop light town i live in at radio shack. i like my radio shack scanners. i have a rs pro-2052 base to. works great.
Most of Radio Shack's scanners are made by a company called GRE. You can buy accessories straight from GRE at [Please login or register to view this link]
Uniden scanners appear to be built a bit sturdier but the radio shack ones seem decent for the price. I just picked up a pro-97 on sale for $150, it will do analog trunking which is what is used around me so it gets the job done.

4 the money
What would be a good scanner for the money, I only want to have to listen to police and fire stuff. I have no need to listen to air or military I just want a basic scanner.

Eugene is correct. At one time, RS scanners were basically Uniden scanners. But that hasn't been the case for several years. Since the late 90s, GRE has built RS's scanners. The only RS scanner I own, or ever owned, is a Pro-43 which I bought in 93 because it was one of the only scanners available that covered the military aircraft band. I used it every year to listen to the Blue Angels.
