Audiovox problems...

Post by Becker »

My buddy received an Audiovox mcb 3000 from a lady he works for. It was free. He has some kind of open coil antenna I'm not sure what kind it is, but he doesn't have a shaft for it so the coil is pretty much sitting on the bed rail of his truck. One day I was driving and he gave me a call and told me to go towards his house and talk on the radio, so I did. He could hear me but couldn't key up, it was in the mic. He fixed the mic some how, so today I tried talking to him, He would respond but it souded like he was underwater trying to talk. He was very close, less than a mile and I had to turn my squelch all the way down just to hear him. Any ideas as to what his problem might be? Sorry about the long read.

Well a stab in the dark here{not really} but I would say he has very high swrs wich are choking his signal. He is either going to have to get a shaft for that antenna or get a new antenna before the radio goes snap crackle pop. It would be beneficial either way for him to either get or borrow a swr meter to tune whatever antenna he winds up with.Shawn
