Is the General Lee radio a good radio. I would like to get one with a super whack pack but i don't want to waste my money if it doesn't talk or receive well.

I won't tell you what radio to buy but I have a SWP General Lee and I think it was worth the money. I am very pleased with it.

i got one and i am very pleased with it. a search on here of SWP General Lee would prolly give you a little better feeling about this radio. there's prolly somewhere around 200 plus posts of great feedback on these radios LOL. i like mine It receives well and send well also. averaging about 10 miles while traveling down the interstate at 70 plus in my semi and have not had problems yet.

I have one I got from RA. I like it and I get good comments about it. Mine receives well, about as good or better than my old Uniden Grant XL does. The only trouble I have had is some segments of the channel indicator burnt the first day. Mike has the radio now and is fixing that for me. Has anyone else had trouble with the display?

If the General Lee has all the features you want, it is very hard to beat, it's a fairly basic no frills "AM workhorse", especially if you get it set up by Al at Sparky's, or Mike, at ***Censored***. Both shops have impressed some seasoned radio users. ***Censored***' seems to have more "Oh my god, this radio is awesome" stories, mine included, and he refuses to sell anything that is of "low quality".

Both Transmit and Receive are very impressive, but that has a lot to do with both the design of the radio, and the tuning, modifications, and alignment that was done by Mike.

The General Lee, by design is a solid performer. The audio section is better sounding than many other radios. The echo sound is cleaner than that of a Galaxy, but some people, for some reason, prefer the weird sound of a Galaxy echo.
I requested that Mike add the "variable talkback" to my General Lee. I'm glad I did, and I would have been bummed out without that addition. The small meter is a slight turnoff also. I would prefer one of the larger meters.
For me, each radio seems to have drawbacks. The perfect mobile radio, for me is not yet made, and I probably would not want to pay the price for a radio with all the features and performance that I like.
Pick the one with the features you want, and get it set up by ***Censored*** or Al at Sparky's, and you'll be in good shape.

Pay close attention to getting the features you want. Radio regret sucks, and Radio resale value bites.
The perfect radio for me would be a combination of the audio sweetness of the General Lee, plus a feature combination of the Galaxy 99V, Magnum S-9, and others.
Also if you planning to not do a separate amp. The General Lee only does 35-45 watts, which is fantastic for driving a separate amp, but is a little short on raw power alone.
If you don't want to do a separate amp. Consider one of the radios with more power inside it.
Good luck! Build your system on the forum before placing an order.

STBR,

I'll agree with you on the echo thing. I just got my General Lee yesterday, and as awesome as it is, I liked the sound of my Galaxy echo better. Don't ask me why.

To Churchman,

The SWP General Lee is obviously a great radio or we wouldn't own them. I bought one on the recommendation of not only Mike at [Please login or register to view this link], but from the endorsement of everyone else that uses them. Great radio and it will give you the most bang for the buck.
