New idea for ext. speaker
I have not tried this my self but it should work I can't find any reason it wouldn't. The idea is to plug a connector from the ext speaker in the back of the CB radio to the aux port on an after market radio. The thought is that the audio would then be played through the car radio speakers. I have not tested this my self as I have the factory radio in my truck. I don't know if the car radio would interfere with the CB or other way around. Just a thought for now until someone confirms. The cable is easily found at Radio Shack.

That should work.
The only thing I would be concerned with is your CB radio might be sending to many
watts to the car radio. The CB external speaker/audio out is probably rated at 4 watts,
and MP3 players might put out a couple 100 milliwatts. But I am not sure exactly.
Just turn your CB volume way down before you try it.

If you want to do that you will have to use a line output converter or you will overload the inputs on the radio. I don't recommend doing it however. CB audio has a lot of distortion and you can damage your speakers very easy. Here's what you are looking at price wise.
- Line Output Converter: $30
Adapters from Radio Shack: $20
Replacement Speakers for after you blow them: $100 per pair
TOTAL: $250

and the cost of finding out my idea sucks before I do it for real PRICELESSShaft wrote:If you want to do that you will have to use a line output converter or you will overload the inputs on the radio. Cost for a really good external speaker: $50. And by the way, after you spend $200 to replace your car speakers, you'll blow them again.

I never took the output of the CB radio into the idea But then that's why I posted it here. I was sure someone had done it is doing it or knew a friend that did it and launched their 1972 cuda across three counties. Thanks for the heads up guys

Just to shed a little light on the subject. I did a little test with a few speakers I had around the house. I took a car stereo speaker and wired a 1/8 plug to it and tried it out in the mobile. Worked great for about ten minutes but once the signal distorted really bad a few time the speaker started to sound like crap. Now I am sure that I could add something to filter the distortion but the whole point was to find an easier way to get the feed from the CB into the vehicle with extra stuff. So in the few test that I have run. I would say that $50.00 for a great ext. speaker isn't as crazy a I first thought. But then that just my 2 cents worth.

spelling edit.
Aside from digital signal processing, there is not filter available. If there was I would have been selling them for years. A digital filter is the only way it is possible because there has to be a way to sort the sound that doesn't belong from the sound that does belong. A passive filter can't tell the difference.BigBlue 442 wrote:Now I am sure that I could add something to filter the distortion
The only thing a passive filter could do is cut off low end and/or high end frequencies. But it will not eliminate distortion from the band that it lets play through.

Doing it like that really isn't that big of a problem because you aren't using that speaker for music playback. If your speaker is damaged, then you probably don't notice it because of the high distortion with CB audio. The other problem with running CB audio through the stereo system of the car is that it can damage the audio inputs of the audio head unit.
