Watt Meter Reading

#70316

Post by SkinnyPuppy »

Hi all

I picked up one of them Radio Shack SWR meters to test my radio and amp. I have tried two differant amps with the same radio and this meter. Both times when I deadkey it shows a certain reading, when I talk into the mic, the meter reading drops a bit untill I stop talking. Is this normal? I'm thinking it is since I tested it with two differant amps, ne is brand new.

I have it set on power. When I talk the meter readiing drops a bit. I tried switching the plugs in the back of the meter in case I had them reversed and when I did that, the display barely read anything, so I am sure I have it connected properly.

It has PEP and AVG, I have it set on AVG. When I move it to PEP, the meter reading goes up when I talk.

PEP stands for Peak Envelope Power which in other words is the max watts that your radio swings to.

RMS or AVG is, well, average watts.

no its not normal.. either your deadkey is too high or your radio is not tuned right.

ideally your deadkey should double in rms mode and quadruple in pep mode.
